Award-winning pianist Klara Min presents works by five leading Korean composers, ranging from the descriptive serenity of Younghi Pagh-Paan's Pa-mun, and the simplicity of Ghung Gil Gim's Go Poong (Memory of Childhood), to the rhythmic and dynamic extremes of Sukhi Kang's Piano Sketches.
Born in Seoul, Ms. Min started her first piano lesson with her composer mother. She continued her musical education at Yewon School and Seoul Arts High School, then at Manhattan School of Music where she received both bachelor's and master's degrees with Solomon Mikowsky and Byron Janis.
Ms. Min has performed in North America, Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy and her native South Korea in such venues as New York’s Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall, Barge Music, Gasteig Hall in Munich, Berlin Philharmonie Hall in Berlin, Germany and KBS Broadcast system hall in Seoul, Korea. Ms. Min made her Carnegie Hall Weill Recital Debut in 2002 as a winner of the Artists International Competition in New York, performing the world premiere of piano etudes by Korean composer Unsuk Chin, a recipient of the Grawemeyer Award and the Arnold Schoenberg Prize.
Recent performance highlights include performances of Schumann Concerto in A minor with Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra in Alaska, Beethoven First Piano Concerto with Das Symphonieorchestre at Berlin Philharmonie Hall, Mozart Piano Concerto in D minor K466 with Munich Kammerphilharmonie in Germany and Liszt Concerto in A major with Armenian Philharmonic. In the 2011-2012 season, Ms. Min will give a solo recital at the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concerts Series in Chicago to be live broadcast on WFMT radio station.
